Welcome to Advancing Dementia. As stated in my brief “about” page, I hope to be able to provide some of the things that I’ve often been in need of myself over the years as I’ve tried to help my family to deal with this debilitating disease. I’d like to try to do that by way of both telling my own story, and including links and articles that deal with Dementia and Alzheimer’s-related issues.
One year ago today, my father had a severe downturn, and ended up being admitted again to a nursing home. At the moment, he’s in a home health care program, and I’ve been a full-time caregiver again for three months now. I’m running on very little sleep these days, and copious amounts of frustration over a wide range of concerns and problems. But Dad’s health has improved in several ways since returning home, so there’s something worth stating.
I don’t attend support group meetings, even though I probably should. Perhaps the creation and maintenance of this site/blog will provide some of the things that I’m missing. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to filling this wordpress page with something useful in the coming months, and thank you for stopping by. Prost.
